These are quite sensitive to noise, yielding false positives. A new scheme for real-time pulp inspection described here, which uses a two-dimensional image captured using synchronized stroboscopic illumination; software examines the image for dirt, and using 2D shape analysis high success rates can be achieved with a lower rate of false positives. The system runs on a PC using Windows, and has been field tested at Howe Sound. This document is a description of the use of PAVIS, the software for pulp inspection.
