Abstract
The numbers of children coming into care because of abuse remains a problem in Canada. While much needed attention has been paid ·this problem by professionals interested in eradicating abuse completely, there is also a need for some ameliora·ti ve program for those children who have suffered abuse. The following paper focuses on foster parents. Though these people have been an important part of North American child welfare for many years, the potential they have for offering therapeutic help to children may have been underestimated. In the following pages, thirty-three foster parents in Calgary indicate their willingness and desire to acquire specific knowledge and skills, and to participate fully as team members with child welfare officials in order to be more helpful to the children they serve.
