Abstract
Alexander the Great is a historical figure about whom everyone has an image of his own. This thesis is an attempt to look at the personal history of Alexander. By analyzing his family and cultural background, his appearance, marriages, mental health and death one can create a composite of what Alexander would have been like and how his circumstances affected him. Alexander, like most people, was a reflection of his environment. While some want him to be either a super hero or a psychotic maniac, it is important to realize that he was a human being. Alexander achieved phenomenal tasks during his lifetime and here he will be analyzed through his circumstances with the use of modern medical and psychological analysis in order to get a sense for the personality of Alexander the Great.
