Abstract
You are Among Monsters is a novel that obsesses over the need to tell stories. The novel questions the narrative act and undermines the verisimilitude of the patterns that emerge from the urge to organize events into story. Questions of history, fiction, material history, and believability are raised by the novel and its accompanying critical exegesis. The novel has been heavily influenced by theoretical studies into historiographic metafiction, narrative as a source of comfort, storytelling, patternicity, literary post-utopia, and sous rature. These concepts and their relation to the novel are discussed in the exegetic material.
