Abstract
Electronic Mail (E-mail) is considered to be one of the most common and efficient ways of
communication in today’s internet based world. The need for E-mail clients to keep up with this
rising demand is expected. Utilization of the newest improvements and techniques in the machine
learning and network analysis fields for problems, such as e-mail organization, relations
detection, and explorative learning, is inevitable. Almost every E-mail client today, such as
Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird, Zimbra Desktop, Claws Mail and many more, operates in the same
old-fashioned way with some minor differences in each. They provide basic features that lack
intelligence.
The main motivation of the NE-mail system discussed in this thesis is to leverage some of the other
hidden benefits of the E-mail to its users by incorporating the related data mining and social
network algorithms. NE-mail is an E-mail Mining and Social network tool implemented as a Microsoft
Outlook® Plugin that provides classification, spam detection, clustering and graph- based social
network functionalities in a novel way. Some NE-mail new functionalities are expected to change the
way we look at the current E-mail client’s intelligence level.
