Abstract
The Raven River Member of the Cardium Formation in the Garrington Field is a petroliferous, late-cretaceous unit composed of heterogeneous, bioturbated sandstones and mudstones. Researchers attempted to optimize various drilling and completion parameters, but a multivariate analysis of how geological, drilling and completion variables affect early hydrocarbon production has not been examined. This study uses a combination of sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy and statistics to determine the influence of these variables on 12 month production. Core and wireline log data were used to construct a sequence stratigraphic framework, and geologic maps including net sandstone, net pay, and H. The geologic maps alone were poor predictors of 12 month production, from where midpoint pressure, natural fracture analysis, and drilling and completion variables are included in a statistical analysis. The statistical analysis concludes that 12 month production correlates strongest with the completion length, the number of stages completed, drilling in zone, and pressure.
