Abstract
This thesis explores the life of the Sephardim of Sarajevo, since their arrival to Bosnia until their tragic annihilation by Nazis. The study emphasizes the relevance of this religious group for the economic development of both Medieval Spain and Ottoman Bosnia. The peaceful coexistence that defined these territories reveals a perspective of the Islamic rule in Europe as a distinctive period of interreligious inspiration. The role of women and the space of hamam are observed as crucial components of intercultural creativity. The rabbinic literature plays a significant role in the preservation of the Judeo-Spanish medieval identity. It is revealed that this form of narrative confines women to domestic space. The Sephardic narrative published at the beginning of the XX century is viewed as a form of recreation of the Judeo-Spanish memory. Therefore, the thesis depicts various methods of continuation and displacement of medieval identity of the Spanish Jews of Bosnia.
