Abstract
In my thesis, I study the journalistic work, El año que trafiqué con mujeres by Antonio Salas, published in Madrid by Ediciones Temas de Hoy in 2004, from a literary point of view. I argue that, by presenting himself as the main character of the story, Salas lends his own perspective to describing an infernal world which would remain otherwise mysterious, that of prostitution and particularly of human trafficking. I analyze the prostitute’s characteristic as being “out of the norm” of the female prostitute by means of the theory of abjection. Applying the psychoanalytical approach of the study of the oedipal complex in relation to male behaviour in love, particularly as regards heterosexual desire, allows me to demonstrate that this is the cause of prostitute’s marginalization. The analysis of mediated desire illuminates further the source of male addiction to sexual relations with the prostitute, thus leading to her victimization.
