Abstract
This thesis uses a survey conducted in the summer 1997 to provide an economic valuation of recreation users for the reach of the Bow River below the Ghost Dam to Highway 22. The survey responses indicate that a single site travel cost model is appropriate to estimate the value for these users. Groups surveyed include; canoeists, rafters, and kayakers. The quality of recreation experience is both directly and indirectly related to instream flow. Thus to effectively understand management trade-offs for competing uses of a river, economic valuation for recreation users is required to demonstrate a need for river obstructions such as hydroelectric dams to manage instream flow rates for multiple users.
