Abstract
Despjte the prevalence of researches examining the relationship between red light related crashes at intersections and the intersection geometric designs, few studies have been conducted to identify the relation ship between the red light violations at intersections and the intersection geometric designs. The present study used data collected from red light cameras at selected signalized intersection in the City of Edmonton to establish the association of the intersection geometric design elements with red light running frequencies. Among all chosen intersection geometric design elements, total through Jane width, existence of left-turn lanes and two-way traffic, total number of traveling lane on the crossing road as well as the number of intersection approaches all showed significant effect on redlight running frequencies. In addition, the traffic volume on both the subject approach and the crossing road were found to be of significant influence on red light running frequencies.
