Abstract
Team climate is a construct that has been researched extensively with business teams and has been shown to be positively correlated with performance. The business world and the sporting world have many similarities, so a logical step forward would be to explore whether the construct is present in sport. The Team Climate Questionnaire for Sport was developed to examine whether team climate is a salient construct amongst sports teams. An exploratory factor analysis was performed, resulting in a seven factor solution. Many of the factors were directly related to the previous factors extracted in business research. Correlations with existing sport specific questionnaires, the Group Environment Questionnaire and the Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire (GEQ & ASQ) were undertaken in order to determine if the new questionnaire was able to measure different constructs. The TCQS displayed strong psychometric properties overall and results indicated that it shows promise for measuring the construct of team climate in sports teams. Further examination of the TCQS is justified in order to confirm the factor structure and refine the format.
