Abstract
Dr. R. Michael Fisher, founder and director of The Fearology Institute, takes up an initial study and "reasonable" response to the upsides and downsides (potentially) of Jordan Peterson and the phenomenon (social movement) he is spawning in the last few years, especially in Youtube land and the public lecture circuit world. Peterson is a complex public intellectual to take seriously. Fisher is concerned with a psychologist (Peterson) building social theory without a good educational and sociological analysis that is transparent to Peterson's audiences. Fisher attempts to show a few ways to 'put Peterson in a box' for the purpose of discerning his philosophical and theoretical discourse formation that leads Jordan to his views. The purpose of this series of 2 or 3 videos by Dr. Fisher is to create a less binary opposition to Peterson and one that engages his work and followers where possible in new syntheses for the betterment of all--that is, a more sustainable, sane and healthy human-earth relationality for the future. We owe it to our youth to create these complicated conversations about the future shaping of societies everywhere. Part 2 in this series will examine Peterson's views, practices and theories of conflict and fear. As a fearologist, these two phenomena are critical to building a better society and world.
