Abstract
The Glenbow Museum, located in downtown Calgary, has experienced a shortage of space for exhibition and support functions. This Master's Degree Project constitutes a conceptual proposal for an extension of this museum. The design described in this document relies on a programme formed with the cooperation of Mr John Vollmer, the Glenbow Museum's Senior Art Curator. It is not intended as an alternate design to the original proposals prepared by the Glenbow. The proposed extension would for a major urban element contributing to the "sense of place" of this downtown area. Chapter One and Two introduce the problem and describe the proposed site and its context. Chapter Three gives a description of the proposed urban and architectural programmes . Chapter Four addresses design concepts and analyzes various extension elements. Chapter Five briefly outlines the building systems.
