Abstract
This Master's Degree Project explores the potential of architecture as a facilitator. It attempts to understand the role of the Architecture of the Everyday, our Community Centres in promoting cultural connections and exchanges in our communities. By using the game of cricket, a form of cultural expression as a starting point, relationships between the game, culture, community, community buildings, and urban parks are explored in the thesis. These explorations combined with an understanding of the site, acquired by means of an extensive site analysis helps develop architectural strategies that culminate in the design of a Community + Recreation Centre, a Cricket Clubhouse, and a Viewing Shelter. The interventions intend to facilitate a richer cultural dialogue at the site and transform Riley Park into a cultural catalyst.
