Abstract
This video illustrates the ME-dia space, a video-based system that connects the home and work office of a tele-commuter so that he is in two places at the same time. It leverages notions of proxemics and embodied interaction, where the placement of cameras and displays try to make use of the physical characteristics and social expectations of the two spaces two promote awareness, greetings, and conversation. Unlike conventional media spaces, others do not need the tele-commuters on their own personal desktop; the video connection only exists in the spaces owned by the tele-commuter, who is responsible for maintaining it.
