Abstract
Creating safe spaces, within and beyond the classroom, supports and encourages students to take risks, challenge their thinking, and reconsider some positions and is important in fostering a culture of learning valuing independence, self-determination, intellectual integrity, thought, commitment, and acceptance. A culture of space recognizes diversity in the learning process.
