Abstract
As a result of the environmental impacts of human activities, a trend of having healthy actions at home has been observed in the last decades. This Masters Degree Project examines the consumer behavior behind the Healthy Homes Calgary Program, considering three aspects: energy, environment, and social. Through the review of the literature pertaining to energy consumption in Canada, its environmental implications, and the consumption theories, we are able to make connections to the City of Calgary. A survey conducted in 40 homes concluded that the healthy-home actions recommended by the Healthy Homes Calgary Program in regards to energy and water conservation, waste reduction, indoor air quality, and sustainable food choices and mindful purchasing are certainly implemented. The overall conclusion is that the Program is creating a positive and lasting change in regards to energy consumption at home.
