This study examined the adult learning journey during a midlife career transition and the role of spiritual practices in transforming professional self-concept and defining career purpose and meaning. The research helped to illuminate how adults apply spiritual practices to increase their understanding of themselves, the world around them, and giving back through their careers. Firstly, spiritual practices were useful for understanding the self by consciously reflecting on lived experiences and making meaning of those experiences within one’s inner world. Secondly, spiritual practices are useful for understanding the external world of relationships and informing interaction with society. Lastly, spiritual practices are useful for arriving at an understanding of giving back to society, all of which contribute to creating a meaningful and purposeful career.en_US
