Abstract

Dr. R. Michael Fisher, a fearologist, explores in this series the nature and role of psychosis, or more accurately the systems of psychotic experiencing (or NPE the near psychotic experience), in the shaping of our lives and especially how we are involved in relating to the present and future realities. He is most concerned with "going through red lights" as if it is now the new 'normal' way of carrying on our daily lives as individuals and as a society. He tells a story of being in a room of the best and brightest, 500 entrepreneurs in his city recently and how no one talked about the 'elephant in the room' --that is, global cascading crisis on the scale of mass extinctions and the terror that is going with that. The very notion of "future" has to be completely re-thought and re-imagined from a new baseline, he argues, but the psychosis we are practicing is taking us so easily away from such a confrontation with reality. We are living largely in illusions which are extremely dangerous. What kind of therapeutic re-education is going to be needed to help us through this mass NPE?
