Universities have a profound environmental impact since they are large consumers of resources like electricity, paper and water. Also, by virtue of their size, they dispose significant amounts of waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Because of this, school administrators at the University of Calgary decided to adopt triple bottom line considerations throughout its entire value chain to reduce the impacts of the University procurements. To accomplish this goal, the University signed a contract with Xerox Global Services that aimed to make a transition from a paper-based to an electronic-based education system. This partnership aimed to reduce financial and environmental costs through replacing single-function devices for more efficient multi-functioning devices. The objective of this project was to stress the benefits of performance testing by auditing three departments: Haskayne, Campus Recreation and the Physical Plant. The main findings are that Imagine is accomplishing the objectives it deemed. However, areas for improvement and new savings opportunities were identified.
