Landfill-gas-to-energy Project : Mangrove Pond Landfill, Barbados
Abstract
The project analyses the feasibility of a landfill gas to energy project (LFGTE) at the Mangrove Pond Landfill, Barbados. The Mangrove Pond Landfill is the sole depository of municipal solid waste on the island and an energy project at the landfill will provide a source of revenue and deduction of the environmental risk posed by the landfill. It is expected that other such developments can be made in the Caribbean region based on the methods and results used in this study. The project also assessed issues related to strategy and management of the propped facility. The findings suggested that the economic risks of an energy projected the landfill are relatively high and success of the project would depend on the project development strategy. The study suggests a collaborative approach to project development that will satisfactorily consider the key stakeholder interest and utilize the knowledge and experience of these stakeholders.
