Abstract
This is the 3rd in a series of L. E. T. videos by Fisher (on his Youtube channel); you are advised to watch the prior ones before this one for better context... however, it is not absolutely essential either to do so. An in-depth description of the peer-to-peer counseling method is available from https://fearlessnessmovement.ning.com... Dr. R. Michael Fisher, founder and teacher of Life Enhancement Training (L.E.T.), talks about the basic goals of students (e.g., mothers) he has worked with in this training, which is not wanting to pass on their hurts to their children. The video discusses the important ways to make choices, and create everyday practices, improve critical use of language so we are more aware to catch ourselves and avoid passing on unnecessary hurts and fears to others, and yes, especially to children. Fisher discusses the way mental healthism is a form of oppression, equally important to racism, classism, sexism, etc., that makes our natural use of healing mechanisms "wrong" and suppresses our natural desire to heal. The distinctions of language use between coping words and healing words is emphasized. Most of the latter part of the video goes over the 10 natural healers and how to begin reclaiming them as 'natural' and not as often they are seen by coping culture as 'abnormal' and/or as signs of mental problems. Some of these may be seen as more acceptable in a family system or culture, depending, but most are seen as unacceptable. And, so they have to be reclaimed by L.E.T. students and taught to others so that one has allies supporting this new learning and healing process--on the way to liberation from an oppressive society we live in. The 10 natural healers in this program are: (1) laughing, (2) crying, (3) shaking/trembling, (4) yawning, (5) sweating, (6) touch(ing), (7) talking spontaneously, (8) righteous indignation/anger, (9) spontaneous creation making, (10) dreaming. Dr. Fisher points out these are only fully healing mechanisms when they are accompanied by unconditional attention from at least one other. He also shows in the video how 4 levels deep of hurting take place in a coping culture, and that we are able to better understand this dynamic and heal through by going deeper and deeper, as we gain experience and support, to ensure we heal internalized hurting/oppression as well as external hurting/oppression. This will set us free. Note: some of the basic concepts here are sourced from Re-evaluation Co-counseling (founded by Harvey Jackins, et al.) and Liberation Peer Counseling (adapted by R. Michael Fisher and Barbara Bickel).
