Feasibility Study For The Application Of Energy Efficiency Parameters In Housing Buildings Of Quito
Abstract
This paper studies energy efficiency principles in Quito Ecuador. It defines the parameters based on current literature and practices in the field as well as on current situation in Quito. The paper is divided into four parts. In chapter 2 precedents of energy efficiency documentation are expounded: United States and the European Union. These two examples have a different approach and driving forces in the development of standards. On one hand the US LEED Green Building Rating System is market driven as opposed to the European regulatory approach. In Chapter 3 a wide description of the current situation of Quito is presented. Its unique climatic Characteristics as well as its regulatory framework are explained. In Chapter 4 an application case in housing buildings is done. Basing the analysis in the Codigo de Arquitectura y Urbanismo and the design provided by Arch. Roberto Moscoso, the relevant aspects are explored. In Chapter 5 an approach to the possible strategies for implementation of this kind of studies is done. It is framed under possibility of developing it to the level of guidelines. Finally a set of conclusions and recommendations are outlined based on the previous findings.
