Abstract
In the present thesis, I propose that the dramatist Sabina Berman subverts Mexican patriarchal archive through performativity in two of her productions: El suplicio del placer (1973) and Entre Pancho Villa y una mujer desnuda (1993). In order to achieve this objective, I have applied the ideas of Diana Taylor. Taylor´s theory has been employed to emphasis how certain films and canonic literary texts produced posterior to the Mexican Revolution can be examined as archive. Moreover, I have used the concept of ideology, coined by Louis Althusser, to demonstrate how the archive follows a paternalistic dogma. Lastly, supported by the theoretical approaches of Judith Butler and Richard Schechner, it was possible to delimit how the archive can be contested. However, gender transgressions usually depend on the social class to which the individual belongs.
