Subsynchronous Resonance
Abstract
Series capacitors have been extensively used as an effective means of increasing power transfer capability of transmission systems. However, series capacitors may excite the sub-synchronous resonance and tend to amplify the shaft stress during major network transient event. A power system model is successfully designed and simulated to emulate subsynchronous oscillation. This modeling includes hardware and software implementation in the power system lab. In this thesis, a part of the larger effort is to identify, characterize and mitigate low frequency oscillations in power systems.
