Assessment Of Solar Energy For A Construction Facility In Manabi, Ecuador: A Case Study
Abstract
The Project provides an assessment of the use of solar photovoltaic technology in the rural industry sector of Ecuador. Rural areas present problems related to access of electricity, this has caused problems for INEXTEC, that has its operations base camp within a rural area. INEXTEC needs a reliable source of energy to perform its daily activities and they want to stop using a diesel generator and get involved with the use of renewable energies. The study will provide a framework on what the situation in Latin America and the Caribbean is in terms of renewable energy; followed by a description of the particular situation in Ecuador regarding energy policy and regulations. With the support of specialized literature on solar potential in Ecuador, the system can be sized and designed. An economic analysis is provided to assess the financial likelihood of the project together with a life-cycle analysis, to compare the emissions incurred by the diesel generator and by the new PV system. Finally the study suggests the implementations of a standalone Photovoltaic system.
