Abstract
Forgotten Dreams is a thirty-two-minute musical composition that explores the challenges faced by women artists across cultures and centuries. Combining true stories and personal experiences, the piece unfolds in three distinct movements, each reflecting a theme related to the ongoing struggle for equality in the arts. While acknowledging progress made towards gender parity, Forgotten Dreams underscores the need for further advancement. Inspired by the poetry of Iranian poet Parvin Etesami and the narratives of diverse female artists, the work aims to evoke empathy and raise awareness about the often-forgotten voices of remarkable women. The thesis comprises an introductory essay and a score for Mezzo Soprano, a Reader, Flute, Percussion, Harp, and String quartet.
