Abstract
Not So Perfect is a novel about female friendship as it exists in the life of fifty-year-oldish Veronica, a woman stuck half-in and half-out of grief. Set in Calgary, it chronicles her challenges as she unexpectantly cares for her dying sister amongst the complexity of her children and father and failing flower shop, all within the 2019 moment of climate change. Both scenarios question the What Now? The novel is followed by an exegesis entitled: “Female Friendship in Not So Perfect: Sisters, Friends, and Flowers,” and argues current feminist ideas with female-centered novels to discuss the malleability and differing permutations of female friendship.
