The present study tests Johnson's claims that the lithic debitage patterns identified in his research are indicative of an amorphous core technology. Using his methods of analysis, similar results were obtained for the assemblage collected from the 1991 excavations at the Christensen site. Thus, this assemblage provides data that not only confirm the results of his model but also quantify them through a large number of tests. The present study also tests temporal trends proposed in recent studies. The most significant finding is that the patterns that Johnson claims represent the presence of an amorphous core technology are not exclusively associated with amorphous core use. Although the assemblages, which represent different periods in the present study, are remarkably similar, subtle changes in the reduction strategy are apparent. These changes appear to be related to raw material availability, with the material used influencing the type of reduction strategy used.
