The intent of this thesis is to encourage the development of structural initiatives in social work's response to the problem of sex offending. It is posited that, to date, the profession has tended to individualize its response to victims and perpetrators. Through an examination of the ideological constructs of Western society, an investigation of definitions and theories pertaining to sexuality, gender, and sex offending, and feminist analysis, the researcher concludes that the response is unrealistic. A new direction is proposed in an alternative sociological perspective on sex offending which could provide a framework for structural initiatives.
