Although any recursive process may be expressed iteratively, a certain class of pictures is more easily visualised recursively and more concisely defined. This paper describes GROPER, an interactive graphics language designed to test the hypothesis that recursion can fill a need for the designer and offer new possibilities to the computer artist.
