Cirque du Soleil performers (n=1281) were followed for a total of 812,008 performances over a period of 49 months (2004 to 2008). Cirque therapists used an electronic database as their charting procedure for injuries and treatments. Results showed that the choice of injury definition affected estimates of the injury rate, the consequence of injury and the assessment of statistical significance for risk factors. Using survival analysis techniques and conditioning on the individual, the risk of an index injury was similar to the risk of a subsequent injury (HR=0.97, 95% CI; 0.88 to 1.08), no matter the injury definition.
