A literature review of the subject areas of industrial architecture and research and development identifies the following key issues: The impact of contemporary technological change on management and organization, creativity in the industrial context, and flexibility in buildings. Aesthetic, structural, and functional goals are set for the project. An analysis of site-specific conditions affecting the design is conducted, including physical context, social and civic issues, aesthetics, the "corporate culture", functional planning, and a strategy for growth and change. A schematic design is developed and presented by means of architectural drawings. The design consists of a waterfront development incorporating design offices, electronics shop, assembly and fabricating plants, a test pool, wharfage for company vessels, and provision for public access.
