William John Oliver, 1887-1954, began his photography career in 1910 as a newspaper photographer for the Morning Albertan and later the Calgary Herald. Opening the W.J. Oliver Photographic Studio in 1912, Bill Oliver went on to become one of Canada’s most well-known adventure, nature, and documentary photographers. The Calgary-based Rosettis Studio, owned by Joe and Kay Rosettis, operated in Calgary from 1943 to 1965. Joe Rosettis worked as a staff photographer for the Kodak Company, Associated Screen News, and the Calgary Herald. Joe later freelanced for the Herald and the Albertan while working as a contract photographer for local corporations, including the Calgary Stampede and the Glenbow Foundation.
