(Theresa Marie); Handy, Lee C.This study addressed the development of positive body image in women who had a history of body image dissatisfaction. The intent was to understand what enables women to develop positive body image. A series of in-depth interviews was carried out with four women aged 19-50 who had experienced a positive change in their attitudes and feelings towards their body. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using grounded theory methodology developed by Glaser and Strauss (1967) . The analysis of data produced three major categories: Embodying the Self, Disembodying the Self and Re-embodying the Self and 10 subcategories which illustrate the characteristics of the major categories. The analysis also delineated a core category, "Discovering Self', defined as a basic psychosocial process (BPSP). Understanding body image change as a process of self-discovery may be useful in therapy with women presenting with body image concerns.
