- ItemOpen AccessAllectra: Online Copyright-Cleared Course Readings(2000-06-09) Westell, Mary E.Through a Learning Enhancement Envelope (LEE) grant, the University of Calgary, in collaboration with the University of Alberta and Red Deer College, and in partnership with CanCopy, the Canaidan Copyright Collective, has developed software to provide digital copyright cleared readings to support teaching. Access to readings is limited to students enrolled in courses and statisitcs are kept to report usage to CanCopy and to publishers. This project is the first in Canada to combine digital readings with copyright clearance and authentication at the course level.

- ItemOpen AccessInstitutional Repositories: proposed measures of success(Emerald, 2006) Westell, Mary E.This paper proposed indicators for measuring the success of institutional repositories based on their demonstrated integration with other research initiaives and provides a snapshot of the current state of selected institutional repositories in Canada through a review of their web presence and their integration with university library and research pages. Using the proposed indicators, an examination of the web sites of selected Canadian universities who are particpating in the Canadian Association of Research Libraries Institutional Repository pilot project was undertaken.
- ItemOpen AccessMARC Online: Immediate Access to Cataloguing Copy Through the DOBIS Bibliographic Pool(Haworth Press Inc., 1989) Westell, Mary E.A project to convert and make available current MARC records in a local online file is described. The University of Calgary Libraries use the IBM DOBIS integrated library system to support Acquisitions, Cataloguing, Circulation, and the Online catalogue. Rather than deriving cataloguing copy from a network or bibliographic utility, the library subscribes to the National Library's Canadian MARC Record Distribution Services, mounts the records on DOBIS and transfers them for ordering/cataloguing purposes.
