Abstract
This paper is in support of my thesis exhibition entitled Constructed: Building Conceptions, which was exhibited at the Nickle Galleries at the University of Calgary from the 16th of August 2013 to the 28th of September 2013. In this paper I outline my exhibition Constructed: Building Conceptions, which questions the process through which we perceive and interpret the world around us. Arguing that the social inscriptions that constitute ourselves individually along with our knowledge of the world can also narrow our interpretation of that world. The opinions and judgments that we assign to the world are perceived as being limited to those we have been ascribed socially. Through recounting works completed previously during my Masters of Fine Arts program I contextualize the concerns present in my thesis exhibition within my artistic practice. I will also provide historical context for my practice, by comparing and contrasting my work with the work of other artists.
