Abstract
This thesis focuses on the study of El diario de M. María Evangelista, a manuscript written by a nun by the name of Maria Evangelista (1591-1647).The manuscript was written in 1627, and is located in a Cistercian monastery in Toledo, Spain. It is a manuscript never before analyzed academically. The main purpose of this thesis is to present a copy of a transcription done by the monastery of Casarrubios from the original manuscript plus a first academic analysis of the diary. As part of this academic investigation, I compare Evangelista’s mystic experience with that of the Spanish nun Teresa de Avila (1515-1582), and the German nun Hildegard de Bingen (1098- 1179),to demonstrate how Evangelista’s mystical experience proposes a dialogical form of communication between a mystic and the divine
