Abstract
This thesis presents case studies of six women with DID and DDNOS who learned modified meditation techniques. Meditation has proven to be an effective treatment option for many who experience anxiety and depression. It is also known to be effective for concentration and mental clarity. It is fairly common knowledge that those who have experienced severe trauma are not able to effectively learn and utilize meditation techniques. By developing and modifying meditation techniques, such as incorporating the "window of tolerance" and using the imagination, a number of the study participants were able to consistently practice meditation. The research data, including the Dissociation Experiences Scale, a Weekly Dissociative Response Checklist (WDRC) created by the researcher, and verbal and written reports, suggest that five of the six participants experienced a lessening in dissociative experiences, increased internal awareness and increased affective control.
