In March, 1993, Criterion Research Corp., in partnership with Dr. Rachel Volberg of Gemini Research, New York, was commissioned by the Manitoba Lotteries Foundation (MLF) to conduct a study to determine the prevalence of problem gambling in the province of Manitoba. Dr. Volberg has been involved in similar studies in various parts of the world. The report was written by the project director from Criterion Research Corp. and reviewed by Dr. Volberg. A total of 1212 interviews were completed by telephone from Criterion's central telephone facility in Winnipeg. The sample was randomly selected from the Winnipeg Telephone Directory and Manitoba Telephone Directory. The last birthday method was used to randomly select individuals within each household.eng
