Abstract
The objective of this thesis is to propose and model an agent-based system for the supply chain management of delivering telephones and answering machines as products that require the acquisition of different components and parts for their manufacturing. After choosing a FIPA compliant agent platform (JADE), we create application specific agents that perform certain functions in the supply chain provisioning, an ontology (a sharable representation of supply chain knowledge) and a rule-based engine to provide support for the negotiations between agents. This thesis is an exercise in agent based software engineering and addresses some issues in supply chain systems constructed by conventional approaches. We also provide a methodology for building an agent application system based on a development environment, with information at hand about agent development and implementation and the requirements for a specific application domain.
