One of the most challenging problems in distribution network is islanding detection, since it causes serious problems for equipment connected to the network, specially distributed generators (DG). Network fluctuations occurring at different situations impact the accuracy of islanding detection method. The proposed islanding detection method is based on the well-known theory of symmetrical components. Single variable threshold limit for islanding detection leads to incorrect results. As a result, a new mathematical formula with more than one variable has been implemented. In this dissertation, islanded and normal operations have been distinguished by connecting and disconnecting different types of loads, tripping of other DG and applying both symmetric and asymmetric faults at different location on the distribution system. The proposed method has been simulated for various operating conditions, and the results verify that the proposed method correctly detects the islanding operation and does not mal-operate.en_US
