Abstract
To address a knowledge gap, the Canada West Foundation launched a three-year study in
September 1998. This project was designed to provide a much-needed comprehensive picture
of many of the public policy issues surrounding gambling in Canada. Four overarching research areas were explored: (1) the impact of gambling on the non-profit sector; (2) opinions, attitudes and public policy implications of gambling; (3) the history and scope of gambling in Canada; and (4) the socio-economic impact of gambling on communities. This paper addresses the final component—the impact of gambling.
