dc.description.abstract | A spatial-temporal approach based on historical transportation and land use data for Calgary, Alberta was applied to test whether transportation system performance has a quantifiable, although temporally lagged, influence on the timing and spatial character of Distribution-Logistics-Warehousing (DL W) land use development. This produced several findings. 1) There is an inverse relationship between DL W land development and transportation system performance. However, there are inconsistencies whereby some destinations are more influential than others suggesting that accessibility is spatially uneven. 2) Results of temporal analysis reveal a 5-10 year temporal lag in the relationship. Current DL W land development patterns demonstrate a relationship with traffic conditions at least five years in the past. 3) There is a congestion threshold below which congestion is not significant. This threshold indicates that traffic does not become an important factor until it generates a 2 to 3 % global increase in travel time above free flow conditions. | en |
