This paper is a support paper for my thesis exhibition “Urban Salvage Sculpture”. Initially I discuss the relevance of art and the vital role it plays in human development and communication. I then move on to a description of the materials that I employ in my artwork followed by a chapter on methodology and mentors. This includes an analysis of some of the great artists who have used salvaged materials in their art practices. The latter half of the paper is a discussion about the role of the modern city and the theoretical and critical aspects of man’s modern consumptive lifestyle. The final chapter is a discussion of my artwork and how it has been informed by my research over these past two years.en_US
