This thesis is an exploratory inquiry designed to study political attitudes of junior-high school students. Particular attention is paid to the variables of political efficacy, political cynicism, and politicization. Because of the schism in our country today between Anglophone and Francophone, attitudes toward French-Canada are investigated. Attitudes toward the U. S. are examined, in view of our proximity to that country and our deep involvement in culture and trade. Particularly interesting are the findings concerning which attitudes can be measured and which ones prove elusive at this age level. The author recognizes the validity of Hess and Torney's belief that understanding political phenomena is directly related to cognitive development.
