The exhibition Natural Selection: The Notion of Truth in Photography consists of forty five prints that explore the concept of truth within the photographic media. The main rationale behind these images is the desire to investigate truth as the source of power that has forged the very core of photographic thought. The accompanying support paper begins with a brief historical analysis of the aspect of truth in art and explores how this belief has influenced the photographic medium. Straight and alternative photography are examined, as well as a discussion on the use of syntax and the relationship of photographic truth to the digital and electronic media. The paper concludes with an analysis of the exhibition and how my own photographs fit into this notion of photographic truth.
