Samaria Tertiary Field is a heavy oil field with 5 to 10° API gravity, 81 km2 areal extent, and 2,000 m (6,500 ft) maximum depth. The aims of this work are: 1) contribute to the understanding of how steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) could work in a selected area of the field, 2) provide a detailed description of all the parameters involved in its modeling and performance, and 3) evaluate a tool for ranking the geostatistical realizations to reduce the number of reservoir simulations required. It was concluded that the SAGD application is suitable in the field, but thorough analysis of the heterogeneities is needed to identify the best well placement and steam injection points to allow good steam conformance. The harmonic average ranking method is a useful tool for ranking realizations and aided selection of representative realizations to obtain a range of oil production performances.en_US
