The Calgary Regional Partnership’s Regional GIS Strategic Plan and Implementation Framework outlines a vision for geospatial systems and information in the Calgary region. Geospatial technologies (often referred to as Geographic Information Systems, or GIS) have become an increasingly important tool for municipalities and regions and can assist in planning for a wide range of interest areas such as: Land use, Land development, Transportation and transit, Infrastructure and public works, Economic development, Environmental and ecological systems, Emergency services, and other topics. As issues become more complex, it is becoming more important to be able to visualize and analyze geospatial information to support planning efforts.en
