This extension pilot project assessed several characteristics of The Tapestry Retreat Program, a psychosocial intervention for patients with advanced cancer. The primary objective was to assess the feasibility of a novel recruitment strategy for palliative cancer patients and their caregivers to the program over an 18-month span (2007-2008). Due to recruitment challenges and participant attrition, the study was unable to recruit the required number of subjects needed to meet the sample size requirements within the study’s allotted time frame. Our study faced many of the same methodological difficulties that other interventional studies in the area of psychosocial cancer care face. Utilizing the resources that are now available, sharing our findings, and altering the design, delivery and implementation of the study may pave the road for success in the future, and ultimately aid in improving the quality of life of cancer patients and their care givers.en_US
